Believe it or not, the Treebeard sound you are referring to is Mark's guitar, not a synthesizer. He had some kind of device that he plugged his guitar into that had several foot switches, a foot pedal or two as well as some sort of tape loop. He could get all kinds of sounds out of that thing including echo, 'fuzz tone' and a myriad of other distorted sounds. There's a part in one of our 'studio' recordings where he gets some sounds out of that thing that always makes me think of the space ship from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" coming in for a landing.
